The Greenwells Fly Fishing Club (GFFC), in conjunction with the Victorian DPI Fisheries through a small fishing events grant, will host a ‘Come and Try Fly Fish Casting Session’ at Sumsion Gardens, Wodonga on Sunday 14 March 2010. This is GFFC’s inaugural ‘Come and Try’ event with the possibility of making it an annual fixture on the Club’s calendar. This event is to give participants the basic skills and information needed to spark an interest in the fly fishing form of angling.
The use of all equipment and tackle is provided free of charge with the fun starting at 9.00 am and concluding at 12.00 noon. The event is open to all over the age of 12 however children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Soft drinks will be free of charge, although food will not be available at the venue.
The casting instruction will be presented by Mr George Forster and Mr Brian Henderson, both current members of the Federation of Fly Fishers (inc. USA) with Brian being a qualified FFF Master Casting Instructor and George currently completing his Certified Casting Instructor’s qualification. They will assist participants with various casting styles and techniques that will help new comers and advanced fly casters with the essentials of fly casting and make casting with a fly rod more efficient and less strenuous.
For those who would like to learn more about fly fishing, the GFFC also offers an in depth fly fishing course starting on the 19 March 2010 and concluding with an overnight trip on 27-28 March 2010. This course will cover all areas of fly fishing needed to catch fish, such as equipment (Rods, reels, lines and leaders), stream and lake craft, knots, fly tying and personal equipment. Application Forms for this course will be available on the day of the ‘Come and Try’ event.
More information about the course can be obtained by contacting John Hawkins on 0418 267 805 or Jeff Baldock on 0401 219 986.
