President’s Report
Well I am finally back from far away places and I am glad to be back home again. For our meeting on Dec 7th I will show you what I was doing in Miami and what the fishing was like. Don’t miss this special presentation “Is There Light At The End Of The Tunnel’? Now I have missed a bit this month so if I get any of the detail slightly incorrect please excuse me and better still correct me during the meeting.
Firstly the beginner’s fly-fishing course was completed with the Bowlers Lane weekend a great success. Many thanks to all who helped but particularly to John Hawkins for running the programme again this year. The NSW Council of Freshwater Anglers held their meeting at our clubrooms on Nov 19th and we had a good roll up of members to help with the catering. Again thanks to all who attended and particularly to Marie, who supplied the morning and afternoon tea and baked a special batch of biscuits that was raffled and raised $80 for the CFA. Also to Russell and Chickie for cooking the barbecue lunch. In talking to one of the delegates I was reminded just how lucky we are. He told me his club has a membership of over 300, however, they have no clubrooms or library and meet at a hotel. They were all blown away by our facilities.
Greenwells was very well represented at the Nationals at Falls Creek with Russ D, Stafford, Tony, John, Jeff, Mick and Les H all braving the weather to act as controllers. A very long and wet Friday saw the Big River rise about 4 feet to the point that wading was dangerous and the fishing conditions very challenging. Never the less our boys hung in. Well done guys.
The Loomis Cup at Eucumbene is one of our major annual events and I am sure there will be a full article on this year’s results as our newsletter editor, Les Perkins, took out the event for the second year in a row. No more than four pages on the winning fish thanks Les. A reminder on up coming activities includes our Christmas party on Saturday night 3rd starting at 6.30, Friday night happy hour at the club is still on going and our general meeting starts at 6.30 with a barbecue and casting games on the oval so bring your rod. Don’t miss Les Hawkins’ great article on how to tie a stonefly, thanks Les, and a final reminder that if you have not yet paid your annual subs you are now overdue.
Following our normal tradition our January meeting will have no formal component . Come for a barbie and a drink and the casting games and enjoy what is usually a very enjoyable social night.
Wishing you a safe and happy Christmas with your family and friends and hopefully a few good hook ups.
